Tuina

Tuina (Tui Na) is a type of oriental bodywork therapy similar to conventional western massage. The techniques used are more specifically therapeutic than relaxing. The treatment may address only the part of the body that is affected rather than the entire body.  Tuina often includes techniques focused at the acupuncture points and along the acupuncture meridians. This bodywork helps move the energy or Qi (pronounced “chee”) of the body to increase circulation, relax the muscles and help the body to heal.

Typically the treatment is done on a massage table with the client wearing loose, comfortable clothing with the shoes removed. A tuina-only treatment session at this clinic typically lasts 45 minutes. More commonly, some Tuina may be included in your acupuncture session if needed.

After the treatment, clients should drink plenty of water and may engage in their usual activities. The client should feel relaxed but energized by the treatment. Occasionally, there may be some soreness in the area for the first day or two, especially in those being treated for fibromyalgia.

With each following treatment, soreness should decrease.

Tuina is especially useful for chronic pain associated with the muscles, joints, and skeletal system including arthritis, sciatica, and pain in the knees, back, neck and shoulders.
